We all know how expensive insurance can be these days – you feel as though you are constantly paying out for maybe this will happen or maybe that will happen’. But one occasion not to skimp on coverage is when you purchase vehicle insurance. There are many benefits of roadside assistance so if your company offers this coverage it’s recommended that you take that. If they don’t offer it, you can get it from a range of companies (Consumer Report’s recommendations), at differing prices, dependent on the level of coverage you require.
There are many reasons why people need the benefits of roadside assistance; here are just some of them:
Run Out of Gas?
This is a nightmare, especially if it’s the middle of the night and you are on a country lane somewhere. It’s even worse if you happen to be a female traveling alone. While it’s easy to say that you should check fuel before you leave, I imagine this has happened to many of us at some time or another. Most roadside assistance companies will make lone females a priority, but even so, it can be a frightening experience. When in doubt, call a towing service who offers 24/7 roadside assistance. You may have to pay a little bit out of pocket, but it’ll be worth it knowing you are taken care of!
Tire Goes Flat?
Another nightmare scenario – you’re all ready to go out for dinner, (complete with dinner suit and shiny shoes!) or you’re taking the kids to the beach for the weekend and they’re clamoring to get moving, (are we there yet?’!) and you have a flat tire. The chances are that you could change the flat if you wanted to but what about your clothes? What about the children who are excited and want to go? Can you cope with the but you said…’? Do you really want to get the jack out and start crawling around on your knees? What if you have a flat on the way to a venue and you need to change a tire on a highway? That can be pretty dangerous. It’s much better to call your roadside assistance company and they will be with you as quickly as possible.
We’ve all made the mistake of leaving the radio on in our car, or forgotten to turn the lights off and then come to start the car in the morning only to find that the battery is dead. This can happen quite often, especially during the colder winter months and it is essential that you are not left without the ability to have the heating running. When you are covered by roadside assistance, they will come out to you, (even at home) and jump start the vehicle for you within minutes.
Lock Your Keys in The Car?
This is probably most people’s worst scenario! Locking the keys in the car can leave you in an extremely vulnerable position, especially if you are in the middle of a town and it’s at night! Or you just seem to remember taking your keys with you but you actually left them with your wallet and you can see them sitting there, on the passenger seat, almost mocking you? Many would probably have to fight the urge to break a window to get at the keys but that will leave you with additional expense to repair the broken glass as your insurance would not usually covered for that. Calling a locksmith is another possibility but you will find that the bill will be extremely steep for the small amount of time it would take them to help you. It’s far better to use one of the benefits of roadside assistance and call them out to help you. That would feel much better than having an unnecessary bill from a locksmith, wouldn’t it?
Need Family Coverage?
Many roadside assistance companies will offer additional coverage for family members at a greatly reduced cost. This is useful if you are a 2 car family, or one of your children has just started driving and you want to make sure that they could get assistance if they needed it.
When you work out the per-week cost, it really makes sense to receive the benefits of roadside assistance for as little as a daily Starbucks coffee would cost! It also gives you additional peace of mind when your loved ones are driving on their own, late at night. You can’t buy their safety, but you can get pretty close to it with roadside assistance. And like the good old saying goes, nobody wants it to happen, but it pays to be prepared.
